Debit Card Limits, Mobile Deposit, and Bill Pay

Some of you have banked with us for so long that we wonder when the last time you looked at some of the basic tenants of your accounts with Andover State Bank. Here are a few reminders about checking and savings accounts.

Debit card point-of-sale transaction limits: We limit your point-of-sale withdrawals to $1,500 per day. We recently raised it from $1,000. If you plan to make a big purchase–something above $1,500–call us at (316) 733-1375. We will raise the limit amount for the one-time purchase. If you regularly buy goods above $1,500, either call or come see us, and we will talk with an officer about how we can accommodate your needs.

Debit card ATM cash withdrawals: We limit cash withdrawals to $500 per day. If on a given day you know you need to withdraw more than this, call us. We will find a way to help.

Mobile Deposit: You can now use the technology in your phone to deposit a check made payable to you into your Andover State Bank account. There are, of course, rules.

(1) Your first mobile deposit must fall below $1000. This helps us to activate the mobile deposit feature for your account.

(2) You must endorse the back of the check you plan to deposit with the following: “For Mobile Deposit Only” and your signature. If for some reason, the deposit fails to take–and on occasion this happens; remember: this is nascent technology–you’ll need to bring the check to the bank and deposit it in person. We wish there were another way to do this, but we have yet to find it.

(3) We recommend you keep the physical check you deposited for no less than one week. Again, if the item fails to post, you’ll need physical proof of the check for us to credit your account.

(4) We credit mobile deposit items in the morning and in the late afternoon. So, if you snap and deposit a check around 1:45 p.m., you won’t see it credited to your account until sometime after 4 p.m. If you need access to the funds prior to 4 p.m., you’ll need to bring the check to the bank for deposit.

Bill Pay: You can pay bill through our Bill Pay feature through our Online Banking platform or through our mobile app. We think it’s much easier to set up a vendor for Bill Pay on a desk or laptop. When you try to do it with your smartphone, you’ll suffer the pain of scroll tabs and tiny text population boxes. Also of note, if the vendor you want to pay is not a utility, you must use the “other” feature to create them as a Bill Pay account. We have no control over this.

Pay close attention to the time frame window. Bill Pay works like this: You initiate a payment, and you select a date when you want the payment to arrive. The software calculates if the date you chose is feasible. If it is, it will move you forward; if it is not, it will ask you to select a new date. Once the system accepts your payment request, it begins to process it. A third-party company will create a paper check on your behave, and they will mail it to the vendor. In the past three years, we’ve had a total of four checks not reach their intended destination–and that’s out of thousands and thousands of Bill Pay checks issued. If for some reason you think your Bill pay check failed to reach its destination, come see us. We can track it.
